The next checkpoint is Tuesday, August 31, 1999 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Kennewick, Washington 2,000 points

Rally staff will be available at 2 p.m. for early check-in.

Time penalty begins 6:00:01 p.m. After 6:00:00 p.m. there will be a 5 point per minute penalty for being late. "Minutes" will be rounded up at one second past the key time. For example, 6:00:01 (one second past 6:00 p.m.) will be counted as 1 minute late. Any rider who arrives after 8 p.m. (8:00:01 p.m.) will not receive credit for making this checkpoint, will not receive bonus points for this leg of the rally, and may not collect bonus points for the next leg of the rally.

Bonus listings will be handed out at 8:00 p.m. for the next leg of the rally. Riders may depart upon receipt of paperwork.

Directions from Interstate-82: Coming either from the north or the south, take the "Clearwater/Badger Road" exit (Exit 109). At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn RIGHT onto Clearwater Avenue (left takes you to Badger road, wrong way). Continue on Clearwater approximately 2-3 miles and you come to a stoplight at the intersection of Clearwater and Columbia Center Blvd. Continue on through this intersection, still on Clearwater Avenue. The dealership is just under a mile from this intersection, on the right-hand side, in a small strip mall about 100 yards off of Clearwater. There will be many large RED and WHITE balloons tied to the street sign "Quay Road," which is the actual side street you'll need to turn right onto, so be looking for these balloons.

Gerlach, Nevada is located in western Nevada approximately 120 miles north of Sparks, Nevada on NV-447. From the Texaco station in downtown Gerlach, follow NV-447 .8 mile to the junction of Washoe-County-34 and NV-447. Turn right on WC-34 and ride approximately 1.9 miles to Guru Lane. Turn left onto Guru Lane.

Between 6/10 and 9/10 of a mile after you enter Guru lane, you will see the Chapel.

Point Roberts, Washington is located in northwest Washington state, just south of Vancouver, British Columbia.

NOTE: In order to reach Point Roberts, Washington, you must clear Canada customs and then American customs. On your return trip you will have to do it all again... That's four border crossings at one of the busiest areas in the northwest – you can expect long lines.

When you are in Canada, there are no signs to locate Point Roberts. When you cross the border, Interstate-90 becomes Canada-99. Take 99 to the exit marked Tswwwassen (17 south). In Tswwwassen, look for the McDonalds (there is a sign as you enter town). Find the McDonalds and follow that street south - in a few miles you will reach the US border... If you endup in the ferry port, you missed the turn off to McDonalds, turn around and try again.

The Tar Pits are centrally located between I-405, I-10, US-101 in near Hollywood and Beverly Hills area. From I-405, exit on Santa Monica. Follow Santa Monica east to Wilshire. Follow Wilshire to 5801. The Tar Pits are on the north side of the street. The best parking is on the back side of the park.

Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, California Points: 450 Open: 24 hours

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is located northeast of Big Pine, California. From Big Pine, ride 13 miles east on CA-168, then north 10 miles on White Mtn Road to Visitor Center. Continue 12 miles further past the Visitors Center on the unpaved, but hard-packed road to "Patriarch Grove" which is well-marked. Follow the trail from that parking area approximately 1/4 mile to the Patriarch Tree and take a photo of the plaque (which is mounted on a rock) with the Patriarch tree in background (the Patriarch Tree is the largest known Bristlecone).
